Award-winning photographer Lonnie Timmons III started photographing jazz musicians in 1988 soon after he bought his first jazz album, Miles Davis' “Kind of Blue”.
He has photographed hundreds of jazz musicians at jazz festivals and concerts in the US and Canada. Timmons has photographed performers from Roy Hargrove early in their career as they developed to masters such as Herbie Hancock.
Timmons has worked for major metropolitan newspapers around the country, and has been published in prestigious jazz magazines such as Swing Journal and Jazziz.
The Jazz Town photographs were taken by Lonnie Timmons III during concerts at Night Town as part of a decades long jazz photography project. Jazz Town explores the intimate atmosphere of the Cleveland area supper club to capture the musical passion of some of the best jazz musicians anywhere. This venue, one of Down Beat magazine's 100 best jazz clubs in the world, has offered him unprecedented access to their featured performers.
